FINDING PEACE AND HAPPINESS IN MOMENTS OF SILENCE — by Catherine Morgan
Where did the saying “I just want a little peace and quiet” come from? Obviously, from someone who understood that peace can only exist in silence. The noise of life is like a barrier that stands between you and peace. But, quieting the noise with silence can break down this barrier, and open the door to the peace that is within you.
This week in a New York Times article, the debate continued over the cause and treatment of Autism. A family once united is now divided.
A year after their grandson Christian received a diagnosis of autism in 2004, Bob Wright, then chairman of NBC/Universal, and his wife, Suzanne, founded Autism Speaks, a mega-charity dedicated to curing the dreaded neurological disorder that affects one of every 150 children in America today.
The Wrights’ venture was also an effort to end the internecine warfare in the world of autism — where some are convinced that the disorder is genetic and best treated with intensive therapy, and others blame preservatives in vaccinations and swear by supplements and diet to cleanse the body of heavy metals. — read full article,
This is some information from a new site called Climate Counts…
Everyone’s talking about global warming, but what can you personally do about it? Companies and the things you buy from them have a huge impact on climate change. When you make climate-conscious choices, you’re sending a message to companies that climate change matters to you.
I didn’t lose any additional weight this week…but don’t worry, I didn’t gain any either. Not much to report this week so I thought I would do something a little different. Here are some links to articles with tips, inspiration, facts, and links to other dieting sites. Some you may have seen before, some you may not have. I’ll be back with next weeks “dieting update” as usual.
Until then, here are some great weight loss blogs for you to check out.
“Be the change you want to see in the world” – Mahatma Gandhi
Are you making significant life decisions from a place of fear or anger? Most of us do. When we make choices and respond to people and situations in our life in reaction to fearful and angry emotions, we are choosing unhappiness. From the little responses and decisions in our life, right up to the big ones. So, who cares? Why does this even matter? I genuinely believe we all want peace in our lives. Peace on earth would be great too. The saying; “Be the change you want to see in the world”, suggests that by making positive changes in our own lives, we contribute to a wave that can flow from us, to our family, to our communities, and to the world. It is such a sweet thought. Even if you don’t believe that minor changes you make in your own life can make a difference in the world, there is no doubt that the way we feel emotionally greatly affects our overall personal happiness. How are you feeling about; love, life, family, your job?
OK - Quick recap…Giving up sugar, and eating healthy food is my main goal. But, when I first started this plan I ran into a bit of a glitch.
I’m not really a fast-food person, but this week I fell into the fast-food trap. Actually, it was the Nacho Cheese Chalupa trap. (Truth be told - I fell into this trap twice this week.)
This is the story. (And you’ll see it was really not my fault at all, it was obviously all my daughters fault.) My daughter loves Taco Bell and I love Chalupas. My daughter wanted to go to Taco Bell, so we did. I ate a couple of Chalupas. Moral of the story - Don’t eat Chalupas when you are on a diet.
Since this “laps of the Chalupa”, I have been really good. Eating little to no sugar, increasing my fiber intake, and eating a lot of vegetables and healthy foods. I’m also doing good about not eating too close to bedtime.
I don’t know about you, but even though I know exactly what to eat and what not to eat, I still eat a bunch of stuff I know I shouldn’t. Since I really want to lose a few pounds, I recently started blogging once a week on my struggles and desires to “Take it Five Pounds at a Time“. I need all the motivation I can get with this venture to lose weight and eat healthy, so I looked through the BlogHer Blogrolls for some inspiration, and found a lot of it. For those of you also struggling with weight issues, I hope you can find some inspiration and ideas from these great blogs.
Join me in taking a look at some of the BlogHers blogging on diet and nutrition, I am going to introduce you to a dozen or so in this post. I also encourage you to check out the Health and Wellness BlogRoll where you can find many other great blogs.
Well, it’s the third week and I lost one more pound. So altogether I lost three pounds in three weeks, that’s not so bad.
Some of the things I did right this week were; I stayed away from sugar and the Taco Bell, I increased my veggie intake, and I started taking a fiber supplement.
I don’t think I did anything “wrong”…but I am going to do a few things better this week.
#1 - I’m going to stop eating food after 8PM at night. I know that sounds late, but I am often up until 1am or 2am…so it won’t be easy.
#2 - I’m going to start swimming a few laps in my pool. Swimming is the one exercise I am able to do without affecting my medical condition, and now that it is warm out I can use the pool.
#3 - I’m going to try and eat Wild Salmon at least twice a week. I can get individually wrapped Salmon at our Walmart, and that works good for me since my kids don’t eat it.
Hopefully with these adjustments I will lose another pound. Wish me luck.
Last week I was asked by the WE CAN! campaign if I would help them get the word out about this important program. In response I did a post on BlogHer addressing all the aspects of this important program, the benefits, and how everyone can get involved. Even though this is a program to help reduce childhood obesity, the information focuses on the whole family becoming more active and more conscious of their food choices.
There is so much great information at the WE CAN! site that provides important nutritional and activity guidelines for a healthy life, that we can all benefit from. For that reason, I wanted to also address this program on this site. I hope you will find helpful information and additional links to sites you may not have been aware of.
Let me highlight some of the information that families and individuals can start doing right now to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
